Largometraje – Feature Film

«En construcción» / Work in Progress, Spain, 2001, 125′ (Editor) TRAILER

«Exceptionally in a career spent shooting films in other countries, Guerín’s Work In Progress takes place in his native Barcelona. The film’s ostensible subject is the construction of a building of condominiums in the city’s «El Xino» quarter. This rough neighborhood is a home to workers, immigrants, squatters, prostititutes and drug dealers. The construction site represents an attempt to «improve» the neighborhood – by pushing some longtime residents out. Such is the backdrop to the film, which is made up of staged and semi-staged episodes featuring neighborhood residents and workers at the construction site. Guerín magically spins spellbinding cinema from the simplest elements of urban interaction.» (Source)

«El cielo gira» / The Sky Turns, Spain, 2004, 115′  TRAILER

(Source)

Mercedes Álvarez was three years old when her parents decided to leave the village of La Aldea at the end of the 1960s. Today, only fourteen inhabitants live in this barren corner of northern Spain, a population which is probably the end of over a thousand years of uninterrupted settlement. Alvarez, who was the last child to be born in La Aldea, returns after many years to the land of her ancestors to film a portrait of its handful of settlers. She records what are at first glance ordinary moments (villagers at work or in conversation), but whose uniqueness lies in being caught between timelessness and the approaching end. (Source)

A film essay that traces the connections between memory, public space, and the real estate bubbles that led to the international financial crisis. «The art of memory was practiced by philosophers, poets, and architects», a narrator tells us. In this poetic tableau we see the art of forgetting practiced by real estate developers and business school gurus. (Source)

Life moves along, relaxed and casual, in a modest men’s hairdresser’s in a regular old neighbourhood in an anonymous town. In the middle of a sweltering August the only thing concerning people is the heat wave that has swept the peninsula… (Source)
