Guillermo Peydró es (Madrid, 1981) es historiador del arte y cineasta, y ha sido programador del Greenpoint Film Festival (Brooklyn, NY). Es doctor por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y el Museo Reina Sofía con una tesis centrada en el “film-ensayo sobre arte”, donde estudia las formas de diálogo crítico entre el cine y las artes visuales desde inicios del siglo XX, así como sus aplicaciones estéticas, académicas, políticas. Su cine parte de la relectura en segundo grado de imágenes del pasado, sean pertenecientes al ámbito del arte o del de la memoria personal –que con frecuencia se cruzan–, pero también de imágenes del presente, en particular referidas a procesos creativos en curso. Sus dos primeras películas sobre arte, Las variaciones Guernica y El jardín imaginario, son una denuncia del uso de la violencia contra civiles y su opuesto: una meditación sobre la cultura y creatividad europeas; ambas fueron estrenadas en la sección oficial del festival Documenta Madrid 2012, y han sido proyectadas en cines, museos, universidades y centros culturales de Europa, Norteamérica y Latinoamérica. Guillermo Peydró is an art historian and filmmaker, and was the programmer for the Greenpoint Film Festival (Brooklyn, NY). He has a PhD from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Reina Sofia Museum. In his thesis, centered on «the essay-film about art,» he studied the forms of critical dialogue between cinema and visual arts since the beginnings of the 20th century (specifically aesthetic, academic and political applications). His films tend to use past images of art of personal memory (or the meeting between the two) as their starting point, but also use present day images, particularly those showing creative processes in action. His two first films on art, The Guernica Variations and The Imaginary Gardens, denounce the use of violence against civilians. They are a meditation about European culture and creativity. Both were premiered as part of the official section at the Festival Documenta Madrid in 2012, and have since been shown in theaters, museums, universities, and cultural centers in Europe, North America, and Latin America.
