The 8th screening of the International Film Forum was of the film SEED: The Untold Story. It followed the decline of seeds as GMOs monopolize the environment. Following the screening, there was an engaging panel discussion with two professors, leaders of Carleton organizations surrounding food, and two community organizations.
Constanza’s critique of the film was that is discussed indigenous and religious practices surrounding seeds but not the need for the seed. She wishes that the film had expanded on the systems of resilience and not just vulnerability.” George noted that the film showed the native versus corporate perspective but failed to represent the in between. The audience inquired about what the average American’s role should be. Panelists responded that there must be a change in consumption patterns. Needless to say, attendees left the session feeling informed and empowered.
