Le interesa la confluencia entre la imagen y la pedagog\u00eda y es en ese lugar de encuentro donde ha desarrollado principalmente su trabajo. Tiene una experiencia multidisciplinar en el campo audiovisual. Ha trabajado en el departamento de producci\u00f3n y de desarrollo de guiones en Sogecable y como relizadora de documentales en Canal + y Canal Sur. Fue parte de la cooperativa La Claqueta, dedicada al cine y la infancia. En la actualidad, colabora de forma habitual con\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gea21.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GEA21<\/a>\u00a0y con\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zemos98.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ZEMOS98<\/a> . Ha participado como facilitadora en muchos procesos de video participativo con colectivos muy diversos y con tema relacionados con el urbanismo, el g\u00e9nero y la educaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Nuria Garc\u00eda Atienza<\/strong> holds a B.A. in Contemporary History and a master&#8217;s degree in Film Studies from the European Film College in Denmark. \u00a0She is interested in the confluence of\u00a0the image and pedagogy, and it is primarily from this meeting point that\u00a0she has developed her work. Nuria\u00a0has multidisciplinary experience in the audiovisual field. She has worked in the production department and in\u00a0script\u00a0development\u00a0of Sogecine and as a documentary filmmaker for the Spanish Canal + and Canal Sur. She was part of the collective La Claqueta, which is dedicated to the cinema and childhood. Currently she collaborates regularly with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gea21.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gea21 <\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zemos98.org\/english-bio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ZEMOS98<\/a>. Hay un \u201cadentro\u201d frente al \u201cafuera\u201d de los discursos supuestamente \u201cobjetivos\u201d construidos desde las fortalezas del poder. Promueve que las personas que lo realizan puedan percibir sus realidades, denunciarlas y comunicar sus necesidades o logros. Permite formar espectadores cr\u00edticos esenciales para la transformaci\u00f3n colectiva de la realidad. Tiene adem\u00e1s un gran potencial para fortalecer los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n y documentaci\u00f3n locales y es un agente de construcci\u00f3n de memoria colectiva.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>\u00a0\u00bfCu\u00e1l es la propuesta del taller?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Hacer un acercamiento al v\u00eddeo participativo desde la pr\u00e1ctica, insertando en ella toda la fundamentaci\u00f3n te\u00f3rica que puede haber detr\u00e1s de este \u201cformato\u201d. Para ello, se propone que el alumnado haga una pr\u00e1ctica de v\u00eddeo participativo sobre la propia universidad. En la tradici\u00f3n ilustrada, esta instituci\u00f3n est\u00e1 tan asentada que resulta incuestionable, inmutable e intocable.<\/p>\n<p>Se propone al alumnado partir de una premisa muy simple que responda a la pregunta \u201c\u00bfqu\u00e9 somos universidad? y que permita abrir diversas derivas narrativas asociadas a qu\u00e9 se entiende por conocimiento, qui\u00e9n lo detenta, c\u00f3mo se distribuye, qu\u00e9 queda fuera, etc.\u00a0 La idea es realizar al menos un v\u00eddeo de autor\u00eda colectiva que reflexione en torno a esta cuesti\u00f3n y que genere una mirada aut\u00f3noma y cr\u00edtica hacia una de las instituciones generadoras, en parte, del discurso dominante.<\/p>\n<p>Para lograr este objetivo, se dotar\u00e1 al alumnado de las herramientas b\u00e1sicas para la construcci\u00f3n de un relato audiovisual y a medida que el gui\u00f3n se vaya desarrollando, se pondr\u00e1 a disposici\u00f3n del alumnado herramientas que puedan ser de utilidad para el desarrollo de su propuesta colectiva.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Descripci\u00f3n General del Taller<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>En primavera de 2016,\u00a0<strong>Nuria Garc\u00eda Atienza<\/strong>\u00a0(pedagoga visual) estuvo como invitada en Carleton College (MN) para dirigir un taller de creaci\u00f3n de\u00a0<strong>video participativo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>El taller dur\u00f3 una semana y fue parte del curso que imparte la profesora Palmar Alvarez Blanco titulado \u201cSpain\u00a0Today: Recent Changes through Narrative and Film\u201d. Previamente a la visita de Nuria, la clase de Palmar pas\u00f3\u00a0 8 semanas estudiando la historia reciente de ese pa\u00eds (desde 1939 al presente) a trav\u00e9s de un amplio corpus de documentos hist\u00f3ricos. La contraposici\u00f3n del estudio de los documentos con el an\u00e1lisis de su traslado al \u00e1mbito de la ficci\u00f3n facilit\u00f3 una interesante reflexi\u00f3n sobre la representaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica y su incidencia en la memoria y el imaginario colectivo.<\/p>\n<p>El taller de Nuria supuso un importante momento de\u00a0<strong>toma de conciencia<\/strong>\u00a0sobre muchos de los elementos analizados durante el curso. Con la creaci\u00f3n de un video participativo se pretend\u00eda poner al estudiante no en el lugar del espectador (lugar que hab\u00eda ocupado durante 8 semanas), sino en la posici\u00f3n del productor de una historia.<\/p>\n<p>A lo largo de\u00a0<strong>una semana<\/strong>\u00a0cada grupo de 4 estudiantes estuvo a cargo de investigar un\u00a0<strong>colectivo\/grupo de protesta<\/strong>\u00a0que fuera significativo en el campus; tras esta investigaci\u00f3n, los estudiantes tuvieron que seleccionar el material que formar\u00eda parte de su historia as\u00ed como a las personas que entrevistar\u00edan para su narraci\u00f3n. Cada grupo trabaj\u00f3 en\u00a0<strong>un tema previamente elegido<\/strong>\u00a0por ellos: igualdad y educaci\u00f3n, inmigraci\u00f3n, conflictos sexuales, raciales, medioambientales.<\/p>\n<p>Durante el taller, Nuria ayud\u00f3 con la pre-producci\u00f3n, producci\u00f3n y post-producci\u00f3n del video. En un per\u00edodo de\u00a0<strong>tres clases<\/strong>\u00a0explic\u00f3 lo importante de cada una de las etapas y durante\u00a0<strong>sus horas de oficina<\/strong>, ayud\u00f3 a cada grupo individualmente con su proyecto. Su papel fue decisivo a la hora de restringir la concentraci\u00f3n del tema, la elaboraci\u00f3n de la historia, la selecci\u00f3n de los elementos visuales y del punto de vista. Finalmente, cada grupo estuvo a cargo de las entrevistas y de la edici\u00f3n de los videos.<\/p>\n<p>En el taller se enfatizaron cuestiones relativas tanto al\u00a0<strong>proceso de elaboraci\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0como al de l<strong>a representaci\u00f3n de la historia<\/strong>. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de enfrentarse al proceso de\u00a0<strong>elaboraci\u00f3n cr\u00edtica de una representaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>El \u00faltimo d\u00eda del taller, la clase vio el documento de cada grupo y reflexion\u00f3 sobre lo aprendido en el taller. Los comentarios de los estudiantes en la\u00a0<strong>evaluaci\u00f3n del taller<\/strong>\u00a0enfatizan la importancia de este tipo de ejercicio con el fin de\u00a0<strong>aprender sobre la pr\u00e1ctica<\/strong>\u00a0las dificultades impl\u00edcitas a cualquier proceso de narraci\u00f3n y representaci\u00f3n de una historia.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Workshop<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>For the Workshop Step-by-Step, click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/21stcenturyartivism.sites.carleton.edu\/en\/the-workshop-step-by-step\/\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Reasons for Running the Workshop:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>We need to generate autonomous narratives, capable of breaking through the veil, constructed by the mainstream media, that inevitably conditions (and limits) our vision of the world and ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>Participatory video is a tool that allows the members of a community or organization to produce stories narrated by their actual subjects.\u00a0\u00a0Commonly, there is the idea of an\u00a0\u201cinside\u201d\u00a0faced with an\u00a0\u201coutside\u201d\u00a0of supposedly\u00a0\u201cobjective\u201d\u00a0discourse, which is constructed from places of power.\u00a0\u00a0Participatory video encourages participants to perceive their reality, to denounce it, and to communicate their needs and\/or their successes.\u00a0\u00a0It allows for the formation of critical spectators, who are ultimately crucial to the collective transformation of reality.\u00a0\u00a0This medium also has great potential to strengthen local communication and documentation media, and it serves as an agent for the construction of collective memory.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Goals of the workshop:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The main goal of the workshop was to take a practical approach to participatory video, all the while making use of any theoretical frameworks that apply to this this\u00a0\u201cformat.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0In order to do this, I proposed that students create a participatory video about their own College.\u00a0\u00a0In this workshop, the point of departure for each student was a very simple question:\u00a0\u201cWhat kind of community are we?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This question lead to the development of various associated sub-narratives, all associated with the meaning of\u00a0\u201cknowledge\u201d: who holds it, how is it distributed, what gets left out.\u00a0\u00a0The goal was to create at least one collectively authored video that reflected and focused on this question and that generated an autonomous and critical view of institutions and dominant discourses.\u00a0\u00a0During the workshop, students had the opportunity to reflect critically about methods of communication and their role in forming interpretations and perceptions of reality\/gender perception. The workshop was an opportunity to review how different subjects and differentiated social groups are represented.<\/p>\n<p>In order to meet this goal, students were provided with the basic tools necessary in the construction of an audiovisual narrative.\u00a0\u00a0While the script was being developed, useful tools were also provided to aid them in the development of their collective project design.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>General Description of the Workshop<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>In Spring of 2016,<strong>\u00a0Nuria Garc\u00eda Atienza<\/strong>\u00a0(visual specialist) was invited to come from Spain to Carleton College to lead a workshop on making a\u00a0<strong>participatory\u00a0video<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop lasted one week and was for Professor Palmar \u00c1lvarez Blanco\u2019s 200-level class titled, \u201cSpain Today: Recent Changes Through Narrative and Film.\u201d Prior to Nuria&#8217;s visit, the class spent eight weeks studying recent Spanish history (from 1939 to the present) through a large body of historical documents. \u00a0The contrast between\u00a0the study of the documents and the analysis of their effect on the\u00a0field of fiction facilitated\u00a0an interesting reflection of historical\u00a0representation and its impact on memory and the collective imagination.<\/p>\n<p>Nuria&#8217;s workshop represented an important moment that<strong>\u00a0raised awareness<\/strong>\u00a0of many aspects discussed during the course. The creation of the participatory video was intended to put the student not in the place of the viewer (that had taken place during the first 8 weeks), but in the position of the producer of a story.<\/p>\n<p>During the\u00a0<strong>one week<\/strong>\u00a0workshop, each group of four students was in charge of investigating a<strong>\u00a0collective\/group<\/strong>\u00a0with a significant impact on their campus; after the research process, students had to select the materials for their narratives, as well as people who would be interviewed. Each group worked on a\u00a0<strong>chosen topic<\/strong>: immigration, sexual conflicts, racial, environmental and education.<\/p>\n<p>Nuria&#8217;s work was to help the pre-production and post-production phase of a\u00a0documentary. In\u00a0<strong>three classes<\/strong>\u00a0she taught the\u00a0importance of each of the stages of production, and during\u00a0<strong>office hours<\/strong>\u00a0she worked with each group in their projects. Her role was instrumental in narrowing the subject, the development of the story, the selection of visual elements and the point of view. Finally, each group was in charge of the interviews and the final editing of videos.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop highlighted\u00a0questions relating to the process of\u00a0<strong>making a video<\/strong>\u00a0as a\u00a0<strong>representation of history<\/strong>. \u00a0Students had the opportunity to confront the process of\u00a0<strong>critical production of a historical representation.<\/strong><br \/>\nOn the last day of the workshop, the class watched each group&#8217;s documentary and reflected on what they learned in the workshop.
