Constantino Bértolo, licenciado en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad complutense de Madrid, es uno de los críticos y editores más prestigiosos de España. Ha sido director de la editorial Debate y actualmente desempeña la dirección literaria del sello editorial Caballo de Troya (Penguin Random House). Ejerció la crítica literaria en diversos medios de prensa: revista El Urogallo, diario El País, diario El Independiente. Entre 1978 y 1985, coordinó la edición de la colección Tus Libros de la editorial Anaya.
En los años noventa cofundó la Escuela de Letras de Madrid, donde ejerció como director de estudios. Es profesor en el Máster de Edición de la Universidad Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona, en el Máster de Edición de la Universidad de Salamanca (Grupo Santillana) y en el Máster de Edición Iberoamericano. Desde 1990 viene desempeñando funciones ejecutivas en el mundo editorial: director editorial de la Editorial Debate. Actualmente es el director literario de la editorial Caballo de Troya, perteneciente al grupo Penguin Random House.
Ha participado en distintos congresos sobre literatura y lectura tanto en Europa como en América Latina. En 2009 recibió el Premio Periodístico sobre Lectura de la Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez.Es autor de diversos estudios sobre la edición y la lectura: La narrativa española entre 1975-1985 (Revista de Occidente), Leer ¿para qué?(Revista Educación y Bibliotecas. Madrid, 1995), La Edición sin editores o el capitalismo sin capitalistas. (Revista Archipiélago. Madrid. 2003).

He has practiced literary criticism in various news media: the magazine El Urogallo, and the newspapers El País and El Independiente. Between 1978 and 1985, he curated the collection Tus Libros, published by Anaya.

Madrid, 1995), Editing Without Editors or Capitalism Without Capitalists (Archipelago Journal. Madrid. 2003).
