Clemente Bernad nació en Pamplona en 1963. Licenciado en Bellas Artes (Universidad de Barcelona) y DEA en Sociología por la Universidad Pública de Navarra. Ha trabajado como fotógrafo freelance para la prensa desde 1986 y es miembro de la agencia italiana de fotografía Contrasto. Fotógrafo y cineasta documentalista independiente, con un fuerte interés por las temáticas sociales y políticas dentro de su entorno cultural más cercano. Entre sus trabajos destacan Jornaleros, sobre la vida de los campesinos temporeros andaluces; Mujeres sin tierra, pobres de nosotros, un proyecto colectivo sobre la marginalidad en Europa; Canopus, sobre la crisis económica argentina; Basque chronicles, sobre el conflicto político de Euskal Herria; la película documental El sueño de Malika, y Donde habita el recuerdo, sobre las exhumaciones de fosas de la Guerra Civil Española. En la actualidad desarrolla su actividad como profesional independiente, docente y articulista.


Clemente Bernad was born in Pamplona, Spain in 1963. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Sociology from the Public University of Navarra. He has worked since 1986 as a freelance photographer for the press and is a member of the Italian photography agency Contrasto. Photographer, filmmaker, and independent documentarian since 1986, he has a marked interest in social and political themes in his most immediate cultural context. He is most known for his work Jornaleros about Andalusian agricultural wage laborers, his work from Chiapas after the Zapatista uprising, Mujeres Sin Tierra about Saharan women, his participation in the Pobres de Nosotros, project about marginalized youth, and his extensive work on the political conflict in the Basque Country. In 2004 he published Malika’s dream, a photobook about the return of Malika’s corpse back home. She was a young girl from Morocco who died trying to reach Spain on a small boat. He made his first documentary film on the same subject. His most recent work has been developed in Latin America. He has been working on the project Where memory dwells since 2003. At present, he continues to work as an independent artist, teacher, and writer.
