Isabel Coixet empezó a hacer películas cuando le regalaron una cámara de 8mm por su primera comunión. Tras licenciarse en historia de los siglos XVIII y XIX por la Universidad de Barcelona, se dedicó a la publicidad y la redacción de anuncios. Ganó muchos premios por sus anuncios por clientes como British Telecom, Ford Motor Company, Danone, BMW, Ikea, Evax, Renault, Peugeot, Winston, Kronenbourg, PepsiCo, Kellogg’s, MCI, Helene Curtis, Procter & Gamble, Philip Morris Youth Smoking Prevention, AT&T, Clairol, Nippon Lever, Barclay’s Bank, entre otros.
Como directora y guionista, tiene una gran repercusión crítica internacional. Algunas obras destacadas son: “Mi vida sin mí”, “La vida secreta de las palabras” -con Tim Robbins-, “Elegy” -con Penélope Cruz y Ben Kingsley-, o “Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio”. Sus documentales y películas han sido premiados con varias Goyas. En el año 2000, fundó su propia compañía de producción, Miss Wasabi Films.
Isabel Coixet started making films after receiving an 8mm camera as a present for her first communion. After graduating with a degree in 18th and 19th century history from the University of Barcelona, she began work in advertising and commercial writing. She has won multiple awards for her commercials for clients such as British Telecom, Ford Motor Company, Danone, BMW, Ikea, Evax, Renault, Peugeot, Winston, Kronenbourg, PepsiCo, Kellogg’s, MCI, Helene Curtis, Procter & Gamble, Philip Morris Youth Smoking Prevention, AT&T, Clairol, Nippon Lever and Barclay’s Bank, among others.
An internationally acclaimed film director and scriptwriter, her important works include «Mi vida sin mí» (My Life Without Me), «La vida secreta de las palabras» (The Secret Life of Words) -with Tim Robbins-, Elegy -with Penélope Cruz and Ben Kingsley-, and «Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio» (Map of the Sounds of Tokio). Her documentaries and films have won various Goyas (“the Spanish Oscars”). In 2000, she founded her own production company, Miss Wasabi Films.
